UNESCO Organizations

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN). Its purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and human rights along with fundamental freedom.

UNESCO has 195 member countries and it pursues its objectives through five major programs: education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and communication and information.

Projects sponsored by UNESCO include literacy, technical, and teacher-training programs; international science programs; the promotion of independent media and freedom of the press; regional and cultural history projects; the promotion of cultural diversity; translations of world literature; international cooperation agreements to secure the world cultural and natural heritage (World Heritage Sites) and to preserve human rights, and attempts to bridge the worldwide digital divide. It is also a member of the United Nations Development Group.

UNESCO’s aim is "to contribute to the building of peace, the eradication of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information". Other priorities of the Organization include attaining quality education for all and lifelong learning, addressing emerging social and ethical challenges, fostering cultural diversity, a culture of peace and building inclusive knowledge societies through information and communication.

European and North American Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations (EFUCA)

The European and North American Federation of UNESCO Clubs (EFUCA), non-governmental association, is a regional branch of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations (WFUCA). It has vocation to gather the worldwide of the Europe and North American zone of UNESCO in which exist UNESCO Clubs and more especially when those are organized as Federation or national body of coordination.

At the present, 22 countries participate as members in our network. Each one of our members coordinate the activities of the UNESCO Centers, Clubs and Associations in each country. In short:

 

  • We support the activities of our members, providing them with a European network and the support they might need or welcome;

  • We organize projects and events having an international dimension, providing the necessary training and exchange of information, along with the notions of life-long learning and social inclusion;

  • We constantly cooperate with WFUCA, ensuring the attention of the local realities to the priorities of UNESCO, in so granting institutional closeness, operational effectiveness and the representation of regional sensitivities within the world-wide network UNESCO is in contact with.

World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations (WFUCA)

The World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centers and Associations (WFUCA) aims to further the ideals, objectives and programmes of UNESCO. To that end it works to further, strengthen and encourage the development of UNESCO clubs, centres and associations; promote international understanding and education, particularly with a view to the effective exercise of human rights, the endogenous development of every people, and the construction of a new world economic and social order, and pursue these aims also in nations and peoples, particularly in order to advance mutual understanding among the different cultures in the world; involve people in UNESCO work, particularly at the grass roots level; promote utilization of science and technology for peaceful purposes, for the welfare of humanity, and, in particular, of the developing countries; promote in all societies the right of every person and every people to a cultural identity.
